Snow Painting for Fine Motor Fun!
My top 3 things to look for in an activity are purposeful, fun, and thematic. If an activity has those 3 characteristics, and it’s fairly easy to set up, there is a pretty good chance I’ll do it. This Snow Painting activity has all of the above. Purposeful, fun, thematic, and easy activities will always be a win. Snow painting for fine motor fun is a winner!

Materials Needed
- Shaving Cream
- White School Glue
- Paper
- Small Bowl
- Spoon
- Paint Brush
- Essential Oil (Optional)
- Glitter (Optional)
Purposeful
Purposeful means that the activity has an objective. There is something the child is meant to learn or practice. Snow Painting is a great fine motor activity. The child’s little muscles in their hands are working hard to hold the paint brush and make pretty strokes.

Fun
Obviously, an activity needs to be fun for it to be engaging for the child. Snow Painting is a lot of fun! The paint is puffy and thick. It can get messy and squishy too. What child doesn’t like to get their hands dirty with creative fun? You can also add essential oils to make the snow paint smell amazing. Or add some glitter to make it sparkly fun.
Thematic
I love a good theme when it comes to many things, including parties, gifts, costumes, and school, to name a few. Activities with a purpose for my preschooler are no different. We are currently doing a winter theme so this snow painting activity fits right in. The child can paint a snowman, snowflake, igloo, snowstorm, or anything they like.

Easy Set Up
An activity that has an easy set up with only a few common items is a double win. Snow Painting takes 2 ingredients and 3 “tools”, all of which you probably already have in your house.
Start by squirting some shaving cream into a small bowl. It goes a long way so you don’t need a whole lot. I squirted about 1 cup full into our bowl and we had a bunch left over. Next, you will squeeze about half a bottle of white school glue into the bowl. Stir these together until it’s about the consistency of puff paint. You can add in an essential oil or glitter at this time too.
