The Bears on Hemlock Mountain Chapter Questions
I have assigned reading the book The Bears on Hemlock Mountain by Alice Dalgliesh in the past for two of my boys. It is a short and easy beginner chapter book. Even though it is short and a fairly quick read, it has good story elements. There is a main character and supporting characters. There is a clear problem, climax and solution. A life lesson can even be learned and applied to the reader’s own life. Continue reading for how I kept my sons engage with my The Bears on Hemlock Mountain chapter questions.

Our Honest Thoughts on The Book
I’ll be honest, even though I thought it was a sweet story, neither of my boys enjoyed the book. It’s about a little boy who has to walk over a small mountain to get something for his mother from his aunt. There is rumored to be bears on this mountain but no one has actually seen any. The little boy is brave and sets out to help his mother. He makes a bad decision though that puts him in danger. The reader learns the creative way the boy keeps himself safe and what he learns for the future.
The Emergence of Chapter Questions for The Bears on Hemlock Mountain
As I mentioned earlier, my boys weren’t really into the book. Because of this, I wrote up reading comprehension questions for each chapter. The questions helped to keep them engaged and focused on the book. I thought someone else might find these questions helpful for their child or students. The book and the chapter questions are recommended for grades 1st – 4th grade. You can see a sample of the chapter questions and purchase the whole packet here.
